Survivor Samoa Winner Natalie: WTH???

by Bruce Simmons on December 21, 2009

I was pretty disappointed in this year’s winner of Survivor: Samoa.

Of the entire group, I thought Russell had the cunning wits to outsmart everyone and Brett was a genius with the additional understanding of the humanity factor.  These two played it to make it to the end.

When Russell eliminated Brett I thought for sure the game was Russell’s.  Of course I was constantly cringing as the on-island interviews kept showing Russell’s cockiness.  When ever they start showing someone talking up an angle, the editors do a mean job of pulling the rug out from under your feet… like they did to us with Russell.

And though I thought Russell should have won, I’ve never seen a more angry, petty jury than I did on Sunday night.  A jury that surprised me.

In every reality survivor type contest, despite being eliminated, the juries always bowed to recognizing good, down to earth, sneaky and totally acceptable game play.  This is a game of eliminating people.  What more is there.  The weak fall, the strong move on.

And yet during the final tribal council, there was more sniveling than questioning than I’ve ever seen before.

In the end, emotional reactions dictated the win…  that being the lesser of three evils and who schmoozed who the best.

I’m rather surprised in the many interviews that people keep asking her about her strategies.  I don’t remember seeing any except laying low and that usually never used to work.  Laying low has always been recognized by juries in the past for what it is, what ever that is you may want to call it, but it has usually been penalized.

Yet this season of Survivor showed us a different kind of contestant.

Of course in the interim, when asked what is she going to do with all that money for winning?  Take a vacation.  LOL.

That’s it!  I’m never watching Survivor Samoa again!!!
