Last week, the 2010 Summer Concert Series that takes place in Fremont Park in Menlo Park was quite the hit. And by about 6 days short, it was almost literally a hit!!!
It seemed like everyone turned out for the event that kicked off the summer series of free concerts and last week, the adjoining downtown block party helped kick it in gear too.
The park was packed to capacity… if you can somehow figure out a capacity number for grass!

The road is closed folks… time for the block party to begin, where the local eateries slid their tables out and took over the streets for a one-of-a-kind outdoor dining experience. There are only 2 block parties this summer. Last week’s during the opener party, and on the final week of the series. Up and down the street of downtown, bands, food and fun can be had by all!

The kids were loving this antique firetruck display… hands on, but kids, hands off the water pumps!!!

For me, there seemed to be more dogs at the party this year! That’s not a complaint, I had my ever-faithful companion at my side also, but at least this year, Izzie had a lot of friends to say hi to. That is, while she was scoping out every piece of loose popcorn and what not off the street!

Remember that bench I pointed out in the first image of Fremont Park? This is it today. It seems that last night (6/28/10) in the wee hours of the morning, a pretty large branch came tumbling down and went splat on the bench.
My guess is the higher branch came loose and took the lower branch with it and they both came crashing down on the bench. The entire walkway was covered in huge pieces of tree this morning when I was out walking around 5 a.m..
To be honest, I’m always amazed when something that could be devastating in the middle of the day, always seem to take place in the wee hours of the night. In this case, because of the park parties, that’s especially true.
Well, see ya’ll tomorrow and if you’re curious about the concert series schedule, check out my 2010 Summer Concert Series in Menlo Park article where I highlight the entertainers and type of music we’ll have each week during the Summer concert series!
Well, you’ll be seeing me, but my editor stays indoors. Look at that steely-eyed glaze as he’s pointing out a word-o I missed!
