The Bachelor on ABC with pilot Jake Pavelka premiered Monday, 4 Jan 2010.
Cinema Static’s Quick Take on The Bachelor Premiere:
(That is, before I talk about the scandal later on.) It was the usual fun premiere that most Bachelor premiere episodes creates. They have the nutcases that play dress-up, the nutcases that start wigging out when things don’t go their own way and the nutcases that aren’t nutcases, but are brave nutcases for going on the show.
In the end, I was incredibly disappointed in Jake’s selection of girls from the original 24… or is that 25… I get confused with all the silicon bouncing around and bursting to get out of their low cut dresses. (That’s marketing for you!) (And I’m technically not complaining. Just making an observation!)
Of the girls I expected or hoped that Jake would pick, I thought for sure the military pilot would have been a nice match up.
But oddly, he left most of the strong-minded, independent women out of the mix and picked the nutcases. Intentionally left vague. But seriously, he picked the dress-up girl who I think is wide-eyed bonkers and he picked the high-stress, start to break down in first episode girl, to note a few. Is Jake not a man who can deal with independent women? I hope that’s not the case!
Pavelka did choose a few I liked, but still, it seems that Jake picked the guy’s girls. Some of the strong-minded women were set afloat. (I actually missed this detail, but a female Cinema Static fan pointed out this perspective she observed, and when I dwelled on it… I couldn’t argue with it.)
The Bachelor Scandal?
At the end of the episode, ABC previewed something that seemed to go down in future scenes that they alluded to but did not describe. It seemed to be a rather emotionally tragic scenario that, as the preview was cut, was pretty intense. (If we can judge a lot of the scenes to be from the same event, that I felt, I was led to believe.)
That something was the relationship that ensued ON the set of ABC’s The Bachelor, between a contestant and a producer of the show. Oops, that’s supposed to be contestant and The Bachelor!
Yep… talk about going for the throat! At least the show can possibly chalk up one more successful relationship?
Unlike most train wrecks that are good for ratings on the show, it seemed this one was not and instead of letting it fly… (grimacing, that was not a pun), the studio clamped down on it immediately.
Jeeze people: (Talking to the contestant and producer) I hope it was worth it for you!
Now we wait to hear the details.
UPDATE 1/11/10: See who and what the contestant has to say about being evicted from The Bachelor.
