Battlestar Galactica: The Plan Airs this Sunday on Syfy 1-10-10

by Bruce Simmons on January 6, 2010

The upcoming Battlestar Galactica venue to grace the small screen is Battlestar Galactica: The Plan.

We here at SoB are of a mixed mind on this project.

My writer, Steve, said the following about BSG: The Plan:

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan. I thought it was very good. I watched it the other night and was impressed how the writers developed that story. Dean Stockwell’s Cylon character was the focus and they really showed his personal spiral towards Cylon extinction.

I may have come into this with too many expectations myself but Steve put it more succinct that I did.

I was expecting a full-blown movie that thoroughly depicted the trials and tribulations that the Cylons went through to blow up humanity and then deal with it.

Instead, I got what felt like I just watched all the behind-the-scenes or deleted scenes from the 1st 4 seasons of Battlestar Galactica.

It added small details to existent plots and scenes, but not really enough to create much more depth than what the original scenes already gave us.

I was hoping for so much more from Edward James Olmos directorial debut in this project, but came away with a “meh!”

But as I say in my original Battlestar Galactica The Plan review, if you’re looking for some kind of closure on a few issues from the Cylon’s perspective, then you’ll be good!

There were a lot of what seemed like deleted scenes thats for sure. But The Plan did center around Dean Stockwell’s human Cylon character and I felt that was pulled off rather well with the new footage of his point of view,in particular the airlock scenes. Those scenes book ended the epic for me.
;-)

The added perspective on the Caprica attack was also pretty cool.

Gonna miss BSG!
