EA Pulling Server Support for Some Online Games, Like NASCAR

by Bruce Simmons on January 6, 2010

As far as NASCAR racing simulations or games go, I’ve been a hardened critic of how EA (Electronic Arts) has handled their NASCAR franchise since they took a wad a money and lobbed it over the wall at NASCAR and nabbed the gaming rights for multiple years.

The only problem was, they spent their money on the rights, taking it away from the much superior NASCAR Racing 2003 Season from Sierra, by Papyrus.

To this day that simulation is used by multiple drivers to test digitally on tracks due to its incredible realism in physics and track representations.

EA Fulfills My Expectations

The community as a whole, was pretty disgusted with the EA platforms and lack of support for the game beyond their rushed release dates.

I tried it… once, and never opened the 2nd shrink wrapped box I had.

On February 2nd, 2010, EA will be shutting down their multi-player servers for NASCAR 09 on PlayStation…  yep, their latest rendition of the NASCAR game.

Other games affected is NBA 07 Xbox 360 & PSP’s.

All in all, there are thirty-seven editions of twenty games games set to lose multi-player support.

Of course the good games will have customer support / multi-player servers and people will be hosting already…    Hmm, Tiger Woods 07 for the PC?  They could turn that into a dating game, like The Bachelor!

Back in April of 2009, they already shut down:
NASCAR® 08 PlayStation 3
NASCAR® 08 Xbox 360

July of 2008:
NASCAR® 2005: Chase for the Cup™
NASCAR® 07 PlayStation 2
NASCAR® 07 Xbox

September 1, 2007 Online Service Shutdown
NASCAR 06 Total Team Control for PlayStation 2
NASCAR 06 Total Team Control for Xbox

November 1, 2007
NASCAR 2005 for PC
NASCAR 2005 for PS2
NASCAR 2005 for Xbox

Anyone see a pattern?  They give you a game, then pull the multi-player support within a year!  I hope no NASCAR Bits & Pieces readers are affected by this!
