Netflix and Warner Bros. Add Delay to New Rentals [Consumer]

by Bruce Simmons on January 6, 2010

Today, Netflix announced that due to their agreement with Warner Bros., you will have to wait a whole 28 days after any WB DVD release before it will become available for Netflix to rent.

Wasn’t I just saying that movies need to be released on all media and mediums on the same day to help the consumer?  OH, wait, this is the greed gene in the business offices of WB speaking.

They add in that more direct-to-video and streaming titles will be available to Netflix.

Cripes.

This also seems to be a possible trend setter in deals with multiple studios.

So much for new release rentals.  This is fracked.  Totally fracked.  I’m So Screwed

I’d like to say we need to make a stand…  and either not purchase movies and only rent, or the other way around.  Yet we know, if we really enjoy a movie, it will be the other way around.

I think I can swear off most anything WB because of this.  They haven’t excited me to date with much.  And if I have to spend money, I’ll pick and choose before I spend.

Hmm, the studio that caters to my needs now, or the studio that is trying to make me buy their product first… tough call?  maybe.

I’ll tell you what, piracy is a big issue and this kind of crap policy is not going to help their (the studios) cause to stop it.
