A Halo Film? Nah, But We’re Getting A Live-Action Web Series

halo live-action web series

After so many years and attempts by some big names in the movie industry, a live-action Halo film has never gotten off the ground. It seems the rights owner, Microcsoft, has been pretty protective of their golden nest egg franchise.

I understand it to some degree… a movie poorly made can muck with a franchise. But if one’s done well enough, it can help bring more money to a franchise.

I’m not sure why they have turned down some of the bigger names in the industry like Blomkamp, Spielberg or Jackson. You’d think they have the right stuff.

But now MS has put out their own Halo web series. It’s called Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. The first part has come out and it’s the first 20 minutes of a 90-minute piece.  (This first bit is an intro to some scenarios, so don’t go looking for Master Sargent yet.)

Halo Video:

You might recognize some of the faces in this web series, like Tom Green, Mike Dupod amongst others.  They plan on releasing a new episode each Friday.

” Set against the backdrop of a UNSC military academy, a group of highborn cadets are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC’s ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about this war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero.

Hastati Squad, the newest batch of freshman cadets at the UNSC’s Corbulo Academy of Military Science, pays the price for cadet Thomas Lasky’s tactics.”
