SHIELD New TV Series exec produced by Joss WhedonBrusimm hinted at Whedon helming a new TV show, and now the news is concrete where Disney/ABC has ordered a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series. Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will exec produce, with production to begin immediately on this live-action series.

There’s no word on how many episodes were ordered. They might be playing it by ear.

Word is that Joss Whedon may direct the pilot episode, barring any scheduling conflicts.

ABC Studios is producing and the official word is that this project is based on a long-running comic title from Jack Kirby and focuses on a secret military law enforcement agency dubbed S.H.I.E.L.D., which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate.

And if you’ve seen any of the Marvel movies, you’ve seen the organization at work!

And then there are the obvious questions…

  • What characters will be in it?
  • Will we see superheroes from time to time?
  • How real-world based will it be?
  • Will we see dropped hints at the other big-screen Disney/Marvel movies in the show?
  • Will ABC take pot-shots at Fox for letting Joss Whedon go? (AKA, AMC at DISH)

OK, that last one was just a fan’s frustration from past events… but hey, if FOX never effed with Whedon’s work, who knows. He may have taken a different path and not be here now, so eh, I guess we say thanks Fox… and all good things come to those who wait!
