The Hunger Games is a movie adaptation of a science fiction novel aimed at young adults. Recently the first movie clip / movie teaser finally came out!
If you’re wondering what movie is this project called The Hunger Games, let me take a stab at explaining it:
The Hunger Games is the first of a three-book trilogy written by Suzanne Collins, originally having come out in September of 2008. The title has been translated into 26 languages with rights to it sold in 38 countries. Collins was behind the book series, “The Underland Chronicles.”
In the near future, North America has collapsed. The ensuing drought, fire, famine and war forces the country to reform into what’s now known as Panem. Panem has 12 districts to it.
In Panem, the new center of governmental power is a city called Capitol. To demonstrate the extent of its power, Capitol holds an annual televised event where 24 kids between the ages of 12 and 18 are selected, 1 boy, 1 girl from each territory, to engage in a fight to the death until only one of the contestants survives. This televised event is called The Hunger Games and it is a political tool used by Capitol to prove that no one is above their reach.
The games, held each year, are telecast throughout all of Panem and watching the games is a requirement of everyone.

Suzanne Collins came up with this idea while channel surfing. She was surfing some TV channels and then she crossed paths with a reality TV show competition and the Iraq war. The two premises melded in her head and the rest is history in the making. Or at the very least, what looks like a highly anticipated movie.
Publishers Weekly had this to say about the book:
“Rather less 1984 and rather more Death Race 2000, hers is a gripping story set in a post apocalyptic world where a replacement for the United States demands a tribute from each of its territories: two children to be used as gladiators in a televised fight to the death”
I can think of a whole bunch of different movies or TV shows that come to mind, but this seems to suffice to stand on its own.

Director Gary Ross has the helm on this one. His directorial experience includes Seabiscuit. He also penned the screenplay. I hope he pulls this off! Though I can’t imagine he can’t with the cast!

The movie started filming in May of 2011 and is due out in theaters in March of 2012.
Jennifer Lawrence, who plays one of the primary characters, Katniss Everdeen, in a first leading role for her, will also be singing “Rue’s Lullaby” on the soundtrack. Musician/producer T. Bone Burnett, who’s scoring the film with Danny Elfman, said “it was beautiful. She did great. She’s singing great.”
Now like almost every other movie it seems, sequels are already lined up for the movie. Hopefully, unlike the poorly realized movie, Green Lantern, premature sequel announcements doesn’t curse the movie, but rather, that fans outside the franchise will flock to the movie in theaters.
