The second season premiere of Alphas on Syfy opened up with a quick recap of how the previous season ended and we find Dr. Rosen (David Strathairn) locked up and being kept heavily sedated. All to keep him quiet after his public confession about the existence of Alphas in society.
The various members of the team are off doing their own things, but the bad Alphas in society are also up to things.
In the 8 months since the season 1 finale, the government has been capturing bad Alphas and putting them in a prison. A prison where they insert chips in their necks to keep them sedated. And Gary (Ryan Cartwright) has found himself in this prison.
But things go wrong, a prison break ensues and the feds need the help of Dr. Rosen once again. This gives him his “get out of jail” card. But things aren’t what they seem.
When all is said and done, some evil Alphas have escaped and have joined up with Stanton Parish. As well as Rosen’s daughter.
Alphas opened up with a strong pace and some fun action, filled with updates on what became of everyone on the team in the last 8 months. The prison break allowed Rosen to be released and he reforms the team, putting them all back on the straight and narrow. Well, at least a few of them.
But there are issues with a few of them that need addressing over this new season and that’s part of the allure of Alphas. These people have powers, but they also have limitations. Sometimes, there’s a cost to using their powers. And this is what makes the show interesting to follow.
