Looking over the article, it would appear (as rumors suggested some time back) that Tony Stark had an idea that would keep him from needing to don his Iron Man suit ever again, and Ultron was his idea of a new man-servant, hero.
And looking at the cover of EW, we see there’s more than one Ultron.
That’s because Stark’s brainstorm of an idea was to create Ultron, a self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence robot. Stark’s initial idea was to design the ‘bot to help assess threats and to also be able to direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle the bad guys instead.
This way, the Avengers could take some time off.
Ultron (Played by James Spader), in all of its self-awareness modes, has decided that in order to maintain peace and to save humanity, has determined that humanity itself is the problem and hence, must be eliminated.
Now some might not disagree with that premise. Humans can be their own worse enemies or what not.
But the problem our heroes will have with Ultron is that even if they can defeat his corporeal body, he has the ability to upload himself into “the cloud,” and rebuild into something newer and better.
So the early rumors were correct in that Stark creates Ultron, which is a deviation away from the comic origin where Dr Hank Pym creates him. But that’s fine. The movies have been taking creative liberties here and there with details and origins of their characters on screen, and making them work just fine for Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
The collective of characters in the film so far will include the following…
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow
Aaron Taylor-Johnson – Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver
Andy Serkis – ????
Chris Evans – Steve Rogers / Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. – Tony Stark / Iron Man
Elizabeth Olsen – Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch
Chris Hemsworth – Thor
Hayley Atwell – Peggy Carter
Mark Ruffalo – Bruce Banner / The Hulk
Cobie Smulders – Maria Hill
Jeremy Renner – Clint Barton / Hawkeye
Paul Bettany – Jarvis / The Vision
Samuel L. Jackson – Nick Fury
James Spader – Ultron
Stan Lee –
Don Cheadle – Colonel James Rhodes / War Machine
Thomas Kretschmann – Baron Wolfgang von Strucker
So who is Serkis playing? And how will Bettany transition from JARVIS to The Vision? And there will be an obvious cameo by Peggy Carter.
All pretty good questions, that’s for sure. But what we do know, from Agents of SHIELD TV series and the last Captain America movie, is that SHIELD is in disarray and there’s all kinds of hurt hovering over that shit! In the meantime, the next film up is Marvel’s little known group of good gangsta’s, Guardians of the Galaxy. I’m not holding my breath, but hey, who knows.
