Bones with David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel

Unlike Bones season finale from their 4th season, “The End in the Beginning” season five’s season finale will not be a lighthearted musical dream sequence. The promos for tonight make it look like Brennan’s (Emily Deschanel) fear of her feelings for Booth (David Boreanaz) may lead her to a rash decision. In the promos, she is talking about missing her work as an anthropologist and she is thinking of taking a job and leaving the Smithsonian.

You have to wonder how long the writers can keep the sexual tension going before it starts to get stale. It is risky. Resolving it can be anticlimactic.

Bones with Micheala Conlin and TJ Thyne

They did resolve the relationship between Angela and Hodgins by having them get married in a jail cell. That was a bit farfetched but it was worth it because it will prompt a return appearance tonight of Angela’s father, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top). The last time Hodgins messed with Angela he ended up naked in the desert with a tattoo of Angela. I will not miss an episode with Billy Gibbons as Angela’s father.

Don’t forget about Sweets and Daisy. There have been many hints about a change in their relationship in this episode too.

It seems that the murder of a hoarder that the gang is trying to solve tonight will be a side issue, as we will be exploring the personal relationships of the team. Whatever happens we know that there will be a season six and the producers, writers and cast will be taking us on another wild ride.

Bones airs tonight at 8:00 PM Eastern on FOX check your local listings.

“Bones” Season five Finale “The Beginning in the End” A Review:

If you were expecting as I was that there would be some resolution to Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan’s (Emily Deschanel) relationship you were not disappointed. Temperance needs the time to sort out her feelings for Seeley. I said in the preview that continued sexual tension could get stale if played for too long. This latest change will allow the show to keep the relationship fresh.

I think that the title of the finale says it all. The producers and the writers are going to open up an entirely new story arc. I hope that I am not the only one delighted by the finale. It would be a shame if season six picks up a year later and everyone has returned older, wiser, and ready to return to work solving crimes. These characters have have more to offer than that.

I hope that the writers and producers allow us to follow the characters as they grow. It also opens up new locations and new stories. I can see the possibility of a murder happening in the Maluku islands. Seeley can get a leave to go help solve the crime. The other team members can fly in from Paris. Cam can provide the services of the Smithsonian via satellite. They have done this in past episodes.

Sweet’s can grow a pair as he was told by Caroline (Patricia Julian) and reconcile with Daisy. As an aside, I love D.A. Caroline Julian. Patricia Belcher plays that character perfectly providing a foil and a delicious dimension to the show.

The last scene between Brennan and Booth was perfect, showing the growth of these two actors and the skill of the director. The two could not embrace. If they had, the emotional release would have been too great and the parting would have been impossible. Brennan is driven by her inability to commit and her love of her profession. Booth has a strong sense of duty. Despite his protests, I could not imagine his character turning down a request when his country says it needs him. It is too integral to his character.

I am looking forward to the next season of Bones. I have come to trust the producers, writers and cast of this show to entertain me each week. I have not been disappointed yet.

(Editor’s note: My tender, gut wrenching final 60 seconds of the Bones finale was interrupted by an ugly 15 second advertisement for XFinity… it really made the moment special to see them staring at each other in their emotional angst then suddenly, AD IN MY FACE (on Comcast) and return to them having already started walking their different directions! Thanks Comcast.)

Anni and Bruce,
I have Comcast also and the ending was not blocked or interrupted in my area. It may have been a west coast problem. I hope you called or e-mailed them and complained.
I’m on the east coast. I am sure that it aired here before it did on the west coast. That may be why it didn’t happen during mt viewing.
I would have been just as upset. We have local stations here that like to completely interrupt viewing for weather alerts when a scrawl at the bottom of the screen would suffice. After five minutes of a weather man pointing at a map the program returns just in time for it to cut to a commercial. I miss just enough to ruin the rest of the show. Grrr.

I did not realize that COMCAST blocked dialog. That’s pretty *****d up. Thanks for the update Annie!

Finally — a post about the interruption of the final scene with a comcast ad.
(see Editor’s note above.)

Thought no one else had this happen. Missed the lines about reuniting. Had to view online. Someone sure made a grave error. Great way to spoil the final moments of finale. 🙁
