Breast Cancer Awareness in The TUTU Project

It was brought to my attention recently about a project that is raising awareness and funds in support of fighting breast cancer.

Breast cancer affects more people than you can imagine.  It impacts 1 in 8 women, which adds up to about 200k women a year.  While cancer itself affects 2 out of 5 people.

It’s always staggering to present your tale and suddenly almost everyone around you tells you their experience encountering breast cancer or just cancer…  It’s like a silent plague.  We don’t go to work and hit the water cooler to regale our latest cancer stories, but when you open up, it’s astounding how NOT ALONE one might be.

In one man’s case, he’s definitely not alone.

His name is Bob Carey and his wife has been attacked by this thing called breast cancer.  And yet, from it all, through the treatments, he has this to say:

“Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others.”

Thus, he started The Tutu Project.

It’s purpose is to bring awareness (and a moment of humor) to the battle with cancer.  The project is a collection of wonderful images of him… in nothing but a pink tutu.  It helps that he has such a keen eye for photography.  The images are thought provoking, tutu aside.

There’s something about the deep love and support he has for his wife to go this route.  It’s rather touching in so many ways.

Any how, before I get to mopey…

He’s taken quite a few pics and he plans on self-publishing a book of his pics.  And the monies from his book will go to orgs like Cancercare.org and the Beth Israel Department of Integrative Medicine Fund.

Below, an NBC piece on Bob’s effort… after that, links to his website and Facebook page.

The Power of One Against Breast CancerAnd remember, it only takes one.  If everyone who visited the site today  sent $1 to a cause, we’d raise thousands in a single day…  it’s not as far fetched to help as it sometimes seems.
