Caprica Ratings A Source For Worry

Over on TV By The Numbers, they chat about something that Alessandra Torresani mentions in her spot on G4’s Attack of the Show, that if the mid-season premiere of Caprica on the Syfy Channel didn’t get as good a set of ratings as the mid-season finale, that Caprica will be canceled.

With that said, the mid-season premiere pulled in under 900,000 viewers in its Tuesday night slot.  The Friday night, mid-season finale had pulled in 1.1 million viewers.  If what the overly supportive (not) Torresani is true, then I guess we can kiss Caprica goodbye.

Me?  Considering they put Caprica on the same night as some of the most powerful ratings getting programming, I’m surprised it found 900k viewers.  At 10pm, it’s up against Parenthood, The Good Wife, Detroit 1-8-7 & Sons of Anarchy.   The lead-ins to the competing shows include NCIS, and the biggest rating getter of the week, Dancing with the Stars.

Moving these shows (SGU & Caprica) to Tuesday nights is a great way to generate a reason to cancel the shows.  I am not holding my breath! Now we wait and see how long the shows really do last while Torresani continues to “cheer” her show on, all the while, she’s gunning for that David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman TV series that’s on the table these days!

Oh!  And I’m waiting for the “That’s not what I meant to say” statement to come out if her statement gets enough media that warrants her back-pedaling.

It’s a very unique show with an interesting plot line. I hope they find a way to keep it going.
Also I have seen very little advertising.
