There have been so many different speculative pieces from all the websites about who might be picked to playing Captain America that it’s just nuts. You could go on all day long pulling names out of a hat and generating conversation but I’m a rather terse individual about these kinds of things and waited.
We now have a definitive list of actors in the running for the fabled star-spangled, shield carrying hero. Let’s take a look at who we’re hearing are in the running for the role of The First Avenger: Captain America.
Patrick Flueger (The 4400):
I’m not seeing this one at all!

Mike Vogel (Cloverfield):
Eh… maybe.

John Krasinski (The Office)
Well, it would be good for his career to break out into something different besides a stand-around office comedy.

Michael Cassidy (Privileged, The O.C.):
I think it would also be good for Michael to break out into a nice action role that will be an iconic film for quite some time to come…. but yet, I am just not feeling this one either.

Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, Caprica):
I could see Scott sliding into a role like this. I’ve enjoyed his work on Friday Night Lights and I’m still pondering his role in Caprica, though it’s a bit of a change from FNL.

Finally,
Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl):
He seems to have the squarist jaw of them all… which for me, would be a prerequisite for Captain America, but that’s just me.
Maybe these guys are being looked at to play Steve Rogers BEFORE he becomes Captain America? Then they’d bring in Mark Valley!
Now that’s a steel-jawed look, but his name was not on the list. Obviously Marvel is looking to come in low with the bids and wages and picking near unknown yet youthful (Perhaps they go hand in hand) silver screen persona’s and we’ll see how it goes from there!
Who ever comes on board will be on board for quite a few projects, at least if Marvel continues to move forward with their plans to bring all the stand-alone superhero movies into one big Avengers movie. We’ll see. I hope they do well with this movie. They’ve done well so far with previous efforts like, um, IRON MAN!!!
The First Avenger: Captain America is due out in July of 2011.
