Today’s casting news is about fan favorites Misha Collins and Jason Momoa.¬† As a side note, I found an upcoming gig for Jill Wagner.¬† Come by and check it out!¬† Like they always say, I’ll start with the good news, and go from there.
Misha Collins promoted as Supernatural Cast Regular as Castiel
Since the fourth season (2008) of Supernatural, Misha Collins as been on the scene and fans loved his dour approach to his character, the angel Castiel.
Through it all, he’s been funny, serious, apocalyptic and confused.¬† (Actually, I think in that order too!)¬† He’s also ranged from full-time cast member, to part-time guest character when times and money were tough for the production of the show.
And fans of the man had to take what they could get in his sporadic appearances and other times that he’s graced the TV screen with his dour (or not) facade.
His true, imbalanced sense of humor is unique to him when he’s not on the tube.¬† IF you follow him on Twitter, you know what I mean.
And in between stints of Supernatural, (since ’08), if you were sharp, you may have caught him in his guest appearances on Nip/Tuck or Ringer.¬† Or his recurring role on Divine: The Series.¬† (He produced more than appeared in)
Or when he mainlined the Syfy TV movie, Stonehenace Apocalypse, which became an instant classic because of his presence!  (Or not.)
News on the street… well, on TV Guide, is that he’s been pulled back into the series as a regular cast-member and will also be directing an episode in the ninth season of the show, which recently received an early renewal.
Misha’s way of announcing it on his Twitter account went like this:
“we appreciate your enthusiasm for the return of castiel #spn but please stop sending feathers as some people, including myself are allergic.”
“I don’t think the feathers to the offices campaign was what saved the angel, but it does look like i’m going to be a regular for season 9.”
I’m thinking fans of Collins will be pretty happy to see him on a full-time basis once again!
Also, you have to respect Misha Collins’ charity, RANDOM ACTS. <- Check out my piece I put together on that back in 2010.
Has Jason Momoa Passed Up A Career Boosting Role?
Jason Momoa is a huge favorite of the ladies.¬† Originally a male model, he turned that “charm” into a TV sensation on TV shows like Baywatch, North Shore and his acting career took a huge genre leap when he landed the role of Ronon Dex on Stargate Atlantis.
But the latest news/rumors were that he had landed the part of Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.
And with most Marvel projects, you’d think that would be a huge career, if not at least, wallet boosting role!¬† But now news on the street is that Jason Momoa turned down the role [giantfreakinrobot].¬† Whaaat!?¬† Maybe Marvel will go with one of the alternative actors that were vying for the role to begin with, which were Isaiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista or Brian Patrick Wade.
I’m sure we’ll hear more on this in the coming days.
Guardians of the Galaxy has a scheduled release date of August 2014, without Jason Momoa.
A bit about Jason Momoa:
In Stargate, his character was about the only man who could face off against Tealc (Christopher Judge) and do so for hours at a time.  And in the episode when they did, it was awesome Stargate-edness!!!
Since Stargate, Jason has had recurring roles in The Game and HBO’s Game of Thrones.
To say he’s had a great TV career would be an understatement.¬† But then there’s his movie resume, which, every time you hear about him landing a role, you think it will be awesome, but then it pans out.
Case(s) in point, 2011’s Conan the Barbarian and 2012’s Bullet to the Head.¬† (I haven’t seen Bullet yet, but Conan should have gone direct to Syfy/DVD!!!)¬† But he’s getting roles and doing his job, paying his Hollywood dues.
He also has two movies in post-production.¬† One he stars in is titled Wolves (Which I’m not holding my breath on) and the other is Road to Paloma.
Any long-time fan of Jason’s knows that he’s always wanted to create stories rather than characters and Road to Paloma is that story, which Jason Momoa wrote, produced and directed.¬† If you lived in or around Bishop or Needles, CA, you might have caught him and his team filming!
“After a brutal injustice occurs on a Native American reservation, a son must find redemption for the actions of his past.
ROAD TO PALOMA is the beautiful journey of two bikers traveling across America‚Äôs vast west. While Native American ‚ÄúWolf‚ÄĚ (Jason Momoa) is being pursued by the FBI ‚Äď for having taken the law into his own hands, when his mother was raped and killed on their reservation ‚Äď he crosses paths with ‚ÄúCash‚ÄĚ (Robert Mollohan), a down and out musician who is coping with the end of his marriage. An unlikely friendship develops, as they ride together towards the Teton mountain range, where Wolf will spread his mother‚Äôs ashes. “
The indie-movie stars Momoa, Sarah Shahi (Bullet to the Head, Fairly Legal, The L Word, Chicago Fire), Michael Raymond-James (True Blood, Jack Reacher), Jason’s wife/other half, Lisa Bonet and Wipeout‘s Jill Wagner (Teen Wolf, Splinter)!!!
The movie is in post-production and is due out sometime this year.
