Movie review of Man of Steel

The cast of Man of Steel includes Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Kal El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor El, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Wan (His Krypton mom).  Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni, Laurence Fishburne, and others fill out a great cast of secondary characters.

-

Nolan and Goyer put together a decent origin story (yet again) of Kal El’s birth, leaving Krypton, and his life as a child on Earth.

This 143-minute film takes the first sixty minutes telling his origin and does it in a way where we jump back and forth between past, present, past, & present.  The story does not get hurt by this technique and kept me pretty focused.

Michael Shannon as General Zod in Man of Steel

And then there’s Zod.  But I’ll leave that for you to experience.
