Chase with Kelli Giddish a Cole Hauser

Chase season premiere aired on NBC, starring Kelli Giddish (All My Children, Past Life) as Marshall Annie Frost is all about Annie in every way shape and form. I was looking forward to what this show had to offer, but it fell short of my expectations and I felt let down in it’s flat delivery of yet one more police procedural that may just fall in amongst the crowd.

The show starts with Annie chasing down a fugitive. It’s a lengthy chase where in the end, she corners the perp who fights back but she demonstrates that she can actually take hits and kick ass. It’s about time a woman can actually give as well as she takes in TV! As she puts down the perp, her partner, Jimmy Godfrey, (Cole Hauser, last seen in K-Ville) shows up and gives her a knowing smile that she kicked another butt.

The rest of the team is played by Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), Rose Rollins (The L Word) & Jesse Metcalf (Desperate Housewives).

I love the cast and yet the episode left me wanting more then it delivered. It was empty and predictable. And that surprised me considering it’s a Jerry Bruckheimer production.

One of the writers for the series is Jennifer Johnson, whose resume includes Cold Case & Lost. Director Karen Gaviola has CSI: Miami under her belt while co-director David Nutter has Entrourage under his. But none of their experience translated for some reason.

Giddish plays the hard-edged Frost that does not look like she can ever crack a smile… at least she didn’t in the premiere episode. And in every situation that required physical activity (ass kicking), her partner, Jimmy, shoved her out of the helicopter first or went around the bridge while she jumped off it. I don’t care if she’s the hero, it just seemed too obvious.

In other words, ladies first! No matter what! I may watch it again or not. Chase did not draw me in enough to want to watch it. I like that a woman is finally, totally kick-ass, but not in this show. I’m bummed.

Jim, ‘Chase’ was pulled from the air and replaced by the game show, ‘Minute to Win It’. I don’t think it’s coming back. []
