Apollo XI

On July 20th, 1969 Apollo 11 (XI) landed on the moon.  It left Florida on July 16th…  cripes, that’s 4 days.  In 4 days I could get to only Maine by driving!  Sorry…  It left Florida on July 16th and was crewed by Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin, Jr..

Apollo Park with Apollo 11 capsule

At one point, the capsule was housed at a remote, obscure location called Apollo Park out in Lancaster, CA but they’ve since moved itto  Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey, Ca..  It had been located at Apollo Park for more than 30 years.

This video, shared by Vicky de Mey (Producer for Michael Chance’s Project Arbiter) shared this 16mm HD footage of the Apollo 11 launch that she found online.  What’s incredible about this footage is that it’s shot at 500 fps and subsequently gives us an incredible 8 minute video from a 30-second event.

I didn’t think it would be that interesting after lift-off, but it definitely is!  Cool find shared by Vicki!

We’ll also be seeing a bit more of Apollo 11 in snippets from the upcoming movie, Transformers 3.  Michael Bay has transplanted some mystery around the flight in the upcoming movie!

Loved it. I never thought 30 seconds could be so informative.
