As far as the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics goes, I was rather mesmerized by Danny Boyle‘s incredible live-action production chronicling an outline of the history of Britain.
Boyle’s resume includes movies such as Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting & 127 Hours.
While others seemed hyper vigilant on calling out how the Olympics broadcast was handled by the announcers, I focused on the obvious. Sure, there were issues, but it seemed too easy to trash on the announcers flubs. Me? I was focused/mesmerized by the story Boyle told about Britain and how he told it. We just watched a huge Broadway-like stage production.
And that production and setting gave NBC the highest rated summer Olympics telecast in history! (It might have helped that there was nothing else on.
But there’s something you, as a television viewer, have to worry about.
Olympic Results Being Spoiled By Other Networks
If you want to be surprised or enjoy the performance events of the 2012 London Olympics, you might want to be careful what you watch. Today I caught ESPN spoiling the 400M swim results, taking NBC’s thunder from its Saturday night telecast.
So beware while cruising your cable TV! (I can only presume this could be true of web entities also.) I don’t think it’s possible to channel surf while covering your eyes, but beware! I’ve seen it myself and have heard from almost a dozen friends about it.
