Despicable Me animated movie

I’m curious about Despicable Me and was wondering for myself if it’s worth the time to head out to see it.  So I checked out a movie review or two to get a feel for it.  Check out what Cinema Static on Brusimm found out:

BSCReview:  “Despicable Me is funny, filled with action and suspense, and heartwarming.  … is a great family movie”

The New York Times said “The difference between inspired creation and frantic pretending is the difference between magic and mediocrity, between art and junk, or to cite a conveniently available example, between “Toy Story 3” and “Despicable Me.”

IGN calls it a “sweet but paint-by-numbers animated family film.

Meanwhile, my favorite 2 gauges on the web have their ratings agree:

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 79% from 114 votes.  That’s good from that surly bunch!

On IMDb, it has a 7.8 out of 10.  That’s on par with RT…  I’ve always found it rare when both of these sites agree on a movie I’m looking at.  This must bode well for Despicable Me.

From what I’m seeing, it looks like Despicable Me is worth seeing.  I’m not going to take too much credence from the paint-by-numbers references and what not.  In fact, through most of my life, mainstream critics have always been a gauge for me… if they hated it, I’d like it.  If they liked it, well, I’d go read a book.  But the online world has changed all that and once you find a critic that seems to concur with your own take, things can be good once again!

And as for that paint-by-numbers phrase, if you think about it, every single movie or TV episode every created all adhere to an outline of sorts.  It’s when something grates on your nerves that it’s most noticeable though.

Here are a few cute things on Amazon

Despicable Me: The Game,

Despicable Me: The Junior Novel,

Country Moo Cow Can-In Despicable Me Movie July 2010,

Or this popular poster.  Everyone loves those minions!
