Disney Just Made A Fascinating Case for Seeing The Avengers in 3D

Will you be seeing Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers in 3D? I wasn’t planning on it, but Disney may have swayed my hand here! Damnit!

As far as 3D movies go, I’ve dug my heels in hard. It seems pointless to fork out extra cash for most live-action 3D movies unless there’s CGI involved like in Tron: Legacy, or Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Animated features seem to benefit the most from 3D, bringing that type of movie to life.

But there’s very little that can get me to fork out the extra bucks for a live-action 3D movie these days. It doesn’t add anything to the live-action movie. But then again, it looks like Disney has found my weak spot!

Disney and RealD have come up with the concoction of custom designed 3D movie glasses based on characters from The Avengers.

Iron Man RealD 3D Glasses

And I have to tell ya, it’s tempting, if for anything else, to have a pair of your own super cool 3D glasses.

They’ve created custom 3D movie glasses based on Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America.

The glasses are from Theatre Concessions, who have teamed up with Disney, Marvel and RealD to produce ‘The Avengers Collector Premium RealD 3D glasses!’

Thor RealD 3D Glasses

You should check with your local theaters to see if they’ve participated. They had to have their order in from Theatre Concessions by January 30th if they are going to have them available for sale.

And unfortunately, the glasses don’t come with the movie, but rather, will cost an estimated $5 to purchase.

But then, once you have your own cool 3D glasses, will that give you a discount at all future 3D movies? I mean the studios have defended the 3D movie ticket prices by saying that part of the ticket cost of 3D movies are the glasses. I’d like to be able to recoup my 50 cents a movie ticket every time I showed up with my own glasses.

That would make these super cool 3D glasses pay for themselves and put studios in a position to have to explain themselves or fess up and give discounts!

What do you think?

[Sources: OK, see if you can follow this… I first saw this on Monster Popcorn’s Twitter feed. I like their site… check it out sometime. Then I researched this for more info and found it at Spinoff Online. But I wasn’t seeing enough info, so I dug a little harder and found out who made the glasses… Theatre Concessions Facebook page.]

Psst (bonus point), BTW, Disney is giving away Darth Maul 3D glasses at the re-release of Star Wars: Episode 1 on February 10th, 2012.

Will US Theaters such as Regal or AMC have other Avengers-related products, such as these really cool cup toppers that appear to be available at least internationally via ‘Golden-Link?
