The BBC has officially announced that “Doctor Who” with Matt Smith will be returning for a 6th season. Now that is shiny!  Steven Moffat will stay on-board as exec producer and will write 5 of the upcoming 13 episodes, plus the Christmas special.

As far as I’m concerned, season 5 was one of the best seasons of “Doctor Who” for me. Matt Smith brought the Doctor more alive for me than even David Tennant. But it isn’t that Matt Smith did it better than David Tennant. He presented it differently, with a fresh and near-quirky presentation that kept a lightness around his character while retaining the serious nature of his existence.

On more than one occasion, when the bad guy was in front of him, he stood his ground and reminded them that he has kicked their asses before and will do it again. I thought that Matt Smith pulled off this actor transition rather brilliantly and engaged my imagination in a better way than Tennant did.  The chemistry between Smith and Karen Gilian also works for me.  I like her brazen youthfulness.

To make it clear, I loved Tennant’s Doctor Who and I was miserable when he announced his exodus. I also shared everyone’s tentativeness about this younger actor taking over the role of a 900-year-old Time Lord.

I’m done wondering and anxious for the next season of “Doctor Who.”

I hope you are too!
