What an awesome tale of Man & Dog.  The man:  Marine pilot, Maj. Brian Dennis.  The dog:  Nubs.

Brian and Nubs met in Iraq while he was on duty over there in 2007.  One day the dog followed him home to the fort he was based in.  As soon as they met, Nubs was playful with Brian.

Brian and the Marines he was stationed with named the dog Nubs because his ears were just that, nubs.

One day, Nubs got stabbed by a soldier with a screwdriver and Brian took Nubs in and nurtured him back to health.

One day, Brian had to ship out to another fort 75 miles away.  He couldn’t take the dog with him.  He figured he wasn’t going to see the dog again.

A couple of days later, Nubs showed up at his new assignment.

Brian kept Nubs but someone found it in their tiny Grinch heart to complain about the dog to the brass and Brian had to get rid of the dog.  So he did.

He got some help, put $5 grand together and had Nubs shipped home to San Diego, CA.

He’s written a children’s book called “Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle,” published by Little, Brown Young Readers.

This is an awesome story of a destined relationship, kindred spirits and a warm and generous human heart.
