Twitter is becoming a spammers, I mean marketers heaven.
They “follow” you, and then most people seem to, for whatever reason, follow the “person” right back.
Not sure if you’re aware, but marketers or self-promoters try to increase their Twitter follower count by following many people this way.
All I’ve got to say is don’t just follow someone who’se following you. A real person is following you because you have something good to say apparently. Then go check them out before blindly following. A lot of times someone who has followed me seems to do just that, follow thousands and they have nothing useful to say. In a lot of cases, all they ever say are repetitive twits, or tweets spamming their own link.
I hate that crap and I will have nothing to do with it. It’s one thing if someone has a useful thought to say, and then it inspires you to check out whatever link is on the site. (Ahem, like the Twitter book link at the bottom of this post.) But to just spam links out is cheap and hollow. That’s the kind of marketing I will not follow.
So don’t just auto-follow. Make sure the new follower is a person with something to say. Someone actually wotth following.
