Dale Earnhardt Jr Wins Nationwide Daytona Race in July 2010

At the front of the NASCAR Nationwide Subway Jalapeno 250 at Daytona International Speedway, the low line was the strong line and seemed to stay as the preferential line throughout the race.  It was an incredible race to watch with the new Nationwide Pony car, being naturally loose, did indeed keep the pack spread out. And it only gets looser as they proceed into a tire run.  Despite the challenges and the odds, Dale Earnhardt Jr. winning this

Kevin Lepage was first out and lap 7 Johnny Chapman got together. Cameras didn’t catch all the details but it might have been Cobb that got loose first on her Nationwide debut. The 2 cars slid to a stop amidst a spectacular spare, overflow fuel blaze.

The car bounce in turns 3 & 4 seems so much more apparent with these new pony cars than the Cup cars.

Dale Junior After the Nationwide Daytona Win

I have to say, it’s great to see these muscle cars on the track. It’s a shame that Chevy didn’t want to bring the Camaro to this series, but the Camaro does not have a B bar and Nationwide cars require them. Chevy did not want to add one and hence, change its look.

This was a great race and it was winding down to what looked like a potential Dale Earnhardt Jr. win, but with 5 to go, a caution flew!  (A fan at the track tweeted that everytime Dale Jr. drove by with that cool No. 3 Wrangler car, the stands erupted in a roar.)

With the green-white-checkered restart, I thought for sure with everyone behind the 7th-place car taking tires, that Dale Earnhardt Jr. was going to get eaten alive.

Instead, Joey Logano needs to be recognized for giving Dale Jr. an excellent push on the restart and they pulled away from the pack just enough for Jr to hang on to the lead and take the checkered flag at the NASCAR Nationwide Daytona Summer race!!!

And gang, yes, Jr. still has it, Jr can still win. In a car that would seem to have been harder to drive than the Sprint Cup cars.

He’s said that he’ll not drive another No. 3 car again and this was a wonderful moment to the event.
