Eli Roth's Upcoming Projects for 2010 [Cinema Static]

in Entertainment, movies

Early in ’09 Eli Roth hinted on his MySpace blog that he’s breaking away from what we know of him as far as movies and doing something different.

Now we know.

Eli Roth’s next project is called Endangered Species and he’ll be shooting it in 2010.

Roth calls Endangered Species as being along the lines of Transformers and / or Cloverfield.  Hmm.  So giant robots stomping on people and being as gory as ever doing it?  There’s no cast attached yet.

But wait, there’s more on Eli.

The company behind the Twilight movies, Summit Entertainment, picked up on another Eli Roth project called Invasion.

Invasion comes from a spec script by Ben Magid that is a post-apocalyptic movie that opens with a subway accident in Los Angeles and the survivors of that accident crawl out to find the city destroyed, bodies, mobs and goo.

But wait…  is there even more?

Eli Roth has been noted to be partners with Eric Newman in producing an upcoming project called Cotton.

Cotton’s plot:  A troubled evangelical minister agrees to let his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew.  It stars Patrick Fabian, Iris Bahr and others.  Supposedly it’s in post-production and looking at a 2010 release.

Cripes, I’m running out of steam here trying to track this guy down.  But there is at least one other tidbit…

You can catch Eli Roth on screen in the 2010 release of Piranha 3-D.  If you pay close attention, you’ll see him as an emcee for the wet t-shirt contest in the movie.  Yea, right… like I’ll be looking for a guy in a wet t-shirt contest scene!!!

From everything I’m seeing here, I’ve really got to question this project with RZA called The Man with the Iron Fist.  From oodles of news about everything else, and the lack of news about Iron Fist, I’m thinking it’s not happening.  I could be wrong, but so be it!

Well, that’s about it for upcoming movies, productions and just stuff from Eli Roth.  He’s a busy guy and deservedly so.  He’s worked hard at his career.
