movie newsThis week there was some news that I was interested in about

Fox on their Marvel titles,

Patrick Stewart,

Transformers 4,

The Dark Knight Rises DVD/BD,

Thor 2,

Captain America 2, and a bit of

IMAX news on the upcoming Bond movie.

Transformers 4

Transformers 4 news

Remember when Michael Bay said he wasn’t doing a 3rd Transformers movie?  Remember when he said that it will be a complete reboot or change of venue using a totally new cast, new bots, new location in the 4th movie?

Right now the news is that TF4 (Transformers 4) filming will be starting up in Chicago again when they do start and Peter Cullen is returning to reprise the role of Optimus Prime.

Before you go off and snark on Bay, this little facet of detail change is a function of news coming out as soon as possible before things are creatively developed to a thorough, finished product.

So, after Transformers 4, Bay once said he’s done with the franchise.

LOL.  We’ll see.  It’s due in theaters June of 2014.

Fox Appoints Their Own Overseer of Their Marvel Characters

The Wolverine news - Hugh Jackman first promo image

News on the street says that Mark Millar is stepping into a role at Fox to take control (oversee) of the corner of the Marvel universe that’s under their company, by contract.

This includes X-Men and Fantastic Four characters.

Tidbit:  Apparently some creative folks some years back wanted to pull in a FF4 appearance in the X-Men movies, but Fox, in all their wisdom, ixnayed that idea.

And if you’re craving these characters and likes of Spider-Man to show up in future Avengers movies, don’t hold your breath.  Sadly Marvel has no control over the characters held outside of the Disney roof since other studios have snatched up the character rights for their own houses.

It’s ridiculous, but there it is.  It’s like this legal fracas with the Superman franchise and what parts of his image are owned by which family.  Phfft.

Patrick Stewart Returning to X-Men Movies?

It would seem that we haven’t seen the last of Patrick Stewart in the X-Men movie franchise.

Bryan Singer and Matthew Vaughn are going to take X-Men: First Class 2 (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and use it as a stepping stone or bridge between eras to create a better sense of continuity between the various movies.

Apparently hard core fans caught some issues that the general movie-goer might have missed.

But at a convention, Stewart was asked about his participation in future X-Men movies and he hinted at a very good possibility of it.

This movie sequel is due out July of 2014.

Thor: The Dark World

Thor The Dark World - news

Do you remember in Thor, when he made mention about the 9 realms?  It would seem that in Thor 2, we’ll be getting to see a piece of those realms.

The movie comes out November 2013.

The Dark Knight Rises

movie review - Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight RisesThe Dark Knight Rises is coming out to the home entertainment venue in DVD and Blu-ray on December 4th.  It will have some extras, but no deleted scenes.  (Which would have been nice to have and create a more coherent flow of story!)

What extras the release will have is

  • The Journey of Bruce Wayne
  • The Batmobile documentary
  • Ending the Knight – ”An in-depth look featuring about 17 featurettes at how Nolan and his production team made The Dark Knight Rises from Batman vs. Bane to totally demolishing a city.”
  • Trailers
  • Art Galleries
Sounds fun!

Skyfall

FYI on the next Bond movie, it’s being reported that the IMAX version of the movie will be released a day earlier than the film debuts in movie theaters.

That makes the Skyfall IMAX opening day on Nov. 8th.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America The Winter Soldier - news

This is the last item because this could be considered spoilers, so there’s nuthing to worry about missing if you bail at this point.

Not sure if you were aware, but the sequel to Captain America, titled The Winter Soldier is based off of a story line from within the character’s franchise past.

It’s due out in theaters April 2014.

If you like being totally surprised by your movies, leave now.

The Winter Soldier is in reference to Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers buddy who fell out of the train back in the first movie.  In comic book lore, the Russians discover Bucky’s body, again, a cold preserved guy.  They recover him, but he has amnesia and lost an arm.  They replace the arm with a bionic arm of sorts and train him to be an assassin.

Therein lies the basis for the story.  In this sequel, they’re also pulling in The Falcon, and I’m pretty excited about that.  As a kid, I used to love the era of The Falcon.
