If you didn’t open that email you received from Facebook on September 13th… well, that was when I received my email, it had some information for you.
The email Facebook sent you was a message saying they weren’t going to be sending you any more emails unless you reset your notification settings.
The email says that they’re turning off most of your email notifications.
The Facebook email provided a link,
http://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=notifications
This link takes you to your Facebook Notification Settings page.
There, you can UNCHECK the “Email Frequency” box in the upper right hand corner of the page.
Unchecking that will supposedly put things back so you now get emails when folks comment on your posts and commented posts.
Not sure why they would make an option and then turn it on, making users have to go do this, but that’s how it works there at Facebook.
There seems to be a fascinating mentality at Facebook where the user is an after-thought while the motivation for a lot of their changes seem geared to help users “connect” and help the advertisers see our connections, hence, spreading their influence.
But that’s neither good nor bad. That’s just business. It’s free to the user and a great utility to help you keep in touch with folks or organizations of your choice.
Right now, I don’t think Facebook is going anywhere, any time soon. But then again, MySpace looked like that too, once.
