MICROSOFT Internet Explorer (IE)The other day a family member sent a post to “Facebook” using “IE8″ (Internet Explorer 8), but then we immediately noticed a typo. Like any user can do, we went to delete the wayward “Facebook” post and re-post it with the corrected version of the post but to our chagrin, we discovered that we could not delete the last post. In fact, in “IE8,” we couldn’t fix any post. We tinkered a little bit and I found that we could do what we needed to do in “Google Chrome.” After a bit of research I found that it would seem that there is a lack of support code on FB’s end is what keeps “IE8″ from interacting with Mark Zuckerberg’s “Facebook.”

After a bit of tooling around on the web, I found the following information on how to get everything to work right once again between your Facebook account and IE8, and it has to do with IE8′s “Compatibility View.”

When you’re on your Facebook page, do the following:

  • Clock on “Tools”
  • Click on “Compatibility View Settings”.

At this stage, Facebook will appear in the “Add this Website” box.

  • Click the “add” button.

Now, you should be set to go now.

IE8′s “Compatibility View” is a mode of Internet Explorer that detects when a website that is more aligned with older browsers is detected. If you come across a website that’s not up to par in how it displays various components in the newer browser, like menus or images that seem in wacky locations on the page, the compatibility view mode is the way to go.

Facebook LogoYou would think Facebook would have actually updated their site, but Mark Zuckerberg et. al. are busy extending their monetization of their piece of the internet pie! (Actually, Zuckerberg is noted to owning only 24% of the pie.

Other owners of Facebook include:

  • Accel Partners (10%),
  • Dustin Moskovitz (6%),
  • Digital Sky Technologies (5%),
  • Microsoft (1.3%),

The rest is spread about a few other orgs, employees and outside investors.

I hope this helps and you will be all set for at least this small hurdle when “using Facebook in IE8.”
