Firefly class transport fr Joss Whedon's FIREFLY seriesAs I noted earlier this week (Feb 13th) for my fans and readers, the Discovery Science Channel will be re-airing the Firefly series, a much beloved Joss Whedon created TV series.  It was previously re-aired in USA Network.  This new re-airing will show the two-hour pilot, then the first episode on March 6th.  After that the show will air each Sunday in high definition, in the proper order.

This Firefly news is obviously relevant to people who only get the Discovery Science Channel, but cool for them.  This specific news for that small demographic of cable viewers has been spreading like wildfire as just about every website out there has a huge Firefly fan in their midst that wants to write about this development.

'Firefly' from Joss Whedon, cast with Nathan Fillion

Inside TV hooked up with Nathan Fillion, the star of the ‘Fox ill-fated’ sci-fi western series and there were some interesting tid bits that came out of the interview that is exclusive to the site from their five question telephone interview.

The part I loved reading was what Nathan Fillion would do if he won the lottery:

“If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet.”

Gotta love it.  I wonder how many people will start sending Mr. Fillion lottery tickets?

For the uninitiated, Firefly was a series that aired on Fox in 2002.  When Fox aired the series, they had some really weird need to re-order the episodes so that the narrative was completely screwed up and thus, very confusing.  This confusion destroyed any hopes of pulling in a decent Nielsen TV ratings and it died.  Or the conspirators might say it was killed off.  Don’t worry, when Fox aired Whedon’s latest TV series, Dollhouse, they did the same thing to that show and reordered things.  At least they’re consistent.

There are some rumors out there that folks were wondering if the Syfy channel was starting up a new Firefly series.  Sorry gang, but per Craig Engler (GM and senior vice president of Syfy Digital), he answered that in the negative over on the Syfy Twitter account Friday (2/18) morning.

I don’t like ripping an entire interview from a site, I get uncomfortable pulling their hard work from them.  That’s why I only pulled the one quote that resonated with this Firefly fan, so head on over to the site to see the rest of the interview with Nathan Fillion.

Check this out, a fan poster found at bensibelman.info, and if this doesn’t say it all about the show and the dedicated “cult” following, I don’t know what does.

When asked on twitter if they would sign up these were the responses.

Jewel Staite “Is the Pope Catholic?”
Jane Espensen “I’m there, if needed.”
Jose Molina “For what it’s worth, I’ve told him I’d drop what I was doing and follow.”
Morena Baccarin “People! You know my answer” I think that was a yes.
