Maglight Flashlight
Flashlights… one of the coolest inventions I think that were ever made.
Anyone here remember those nights as a kid, the blankets or sheets propped up, tent-like, reading your favorite comic book or listening to the radio? My comic book of choice on tent nights was Iron Man, Superman and Shazam. Believe it or not, as a kid, I’d listen to KNX 1070 news radio at 9 p.m., to radio classics.
But flashlights have other cool purposes and as technology in life gets better, so too, do flashlights.
LED technology is making some serious kick-butt bright lighting sources. Car headlights are going LED, they’re getting so good! For me, I have 2 purposes for flashlights. One is for my running. The other is in case of, well, more like WHEN an earthquake hits. They’re part of my earthquake preparedness realm.
Right now, don’t ask my wife how she feels about flashlights. I know she appreciates them, but since I seem to have AT LEAST 2 in every room of our place, she thinks that those Maglights still in the clam shell are overkill! But I have fond memories of using Maglights. In my security days, the 3 and 4-cell monsters were awesome brain-bumpers. The smaller, mid-sized Mags make for totally awesome Kubotans. And for those of you who know what I’m referencing, you know how top of the line handy they can be!

I also love the super light Photons! They’re small, light and very easy to lose unless you connect them to something, anything that you semi-care about!

A friend gave me a big honkin’ headlamp like this Streamlight 61052 Septor. I tried using it running, but it was a bit of a bear on my neck. But it is an awesome tool for when I walk my dog, and scoop duty occurs at night. Nothing beats a headlamp strapped to your head!

But for head gear while running, WOW, a Princeton Tec is awesome. 4 BRIGHT LED bulbs, 4 different modes, submersible… (Not that I’m planning on submersing while running, but I have been drenched in rain and didn’t worry about electrocuting myself doing it!). The thing is wicked bright. I’m afraid to look at people while it’s on and when I look across a street at a house, it lights it up like a cop car is going by with their search floods on.
In the brightest mode, it has a 35-foot illuminated range and I think is the best bang-for-the-buck as far as head gear goes.
But one of the things I like is when I’m coming up on a driveway or intersection, I can look at the car coming up to the intersection. If they don’t see me, then they’re either legally blind or just f***ing stupid.

One of my personal faves, is the Keystone 9B light. It’s bright with 9 LED’s. But as your consumer advocate, I have to let you know that it’s not that much brighter than the much smaller Photon. But it’s very easy to handle and just has a large flashlight feel. Though, to be honest, the Maglight has the “large flashlight feel” down pat. But this is a great little handy

So what if we can use flashlights like wallpaper! Eh… maybe it is overkill, but when the lights go out, I’m a beacon of hope! Or at least a beacon of while finding my underwear and clothes, because I refuse to die neked in an earthquake!
