'Fringe' renewed for a fifth season

The news that many fans have been looking for finally came out today, and that is that Fox has given the green light and renewed Fringe for a fifth season!

The renewal is for a 13-episode season and Fox has said, that this fifth season is the final season of Fringe.

They ordered 13 episodes to get the series episode count to the magic 100.  Apparently a 100-episode count is the magical number required for a series to meet a syndication threshold.

But more importantly, this extra season order from Fox allows the showrunners to create an actual proper sendoff…  give fans of Fringe the story ending they deserve.  We get to find out what is in those sick minds of the showrunners and what they’ll pull out to make it an incredible series finale!!!

As showrunners Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman said,

“Season five is going to be a conclusive thrill ride for all of us.”

The production gang had shot two endings for the season finale this year, to be prepared for the potential of getting canned this year.

I also think that it’s nice that Fox gave the series this extra lap.  The show has been losing money for Fox so this is pretty cool that they’ve done this.

But me, secretly, I think Fox is still trying to pay amends to all genre fans after what they did to Joss Whedon’s Firefly way back in the day.  At least I can’t help but think that when they renew a show that’s losing money.

Still, I appreciate the opportunity to see the story of Fringe finished out in it’s fifth and final season.
