Movie news on the street is that Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures have commenced with actual production of the Gareth Edwards film, Godzilla, starring David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche.
That’s right folks, the production companies tossed out a press release bit and principal photography has started today in Vancouver. Today being Monday, March 18th, 2013.
If you recall, Edwards (Monsters) has experience with great stories intertwined with a world besieged with giant monsters, so his vision of this new Godzilla film should be better than the more recent version of the smaller-sized lizard that we had, with Broderick running for his life.
The screenplay or script, was man-handled by a few seasoned veterans and that too gives this movie quite the fighting chance, well, at least I think so.
The script was originally written by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight film franchise), then worked over by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont (The Mist, on TV: The Walking Dead) and Dave Callaham. Heck, even Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Pacific Rim) had a hand in it. OK, someone tell me Pearce doesn’t write cool stuff? This, IM3, Pacific Rim.)
Godzilla opens in theaters in May of 2014. I can’t wait to not only see the marketing, but how the marketing will be spun!Teruyoshi Nakano Godzilla and Mecha Godzilla
Also announced today, was the addition of Ken Watanabe, to the grittier, more realistic take on the big green guy.
(Psst: Since I mentioned Iron Man 3, I guess I can spit out some bonus news for those who actually visited this site, that rumors have it that the movie trailer for Thor 2 will be coupled with IM 3 when it opens. Seems appropriate, doesn’t it?)
