There’s some news floating around about The Avengers 2 in that Jeremy Renner might be finding himself on the outs as Marvel might be thinking about recasting Hawkeye in their Marvel Cinematic Universe of movies.
When I first saw that, it seemed to be an interesting headline… much like the internet prank today about the man who died having sex with a hornet’s nest. (Don’t ask. Just know your fellow web surfer fell for something crazy.)
In various pieces, they quote an interview with Jeremy Renner and a website called Total Film, where Renner is bitching about how his character was treated like a robot bad guy, beckoning to Loki’s every wish.
He called it a “kind of a vacancy,” which I presume he wanted to act more and put more into the character.
Later on, Hawkeye is rescued from his predicament and he gets to kick ass and be himself. I thought it was a good, surprising use of the character, and he had the chance to redeem himself nicely.
I don’t get the bitch-fest about his role in a billion dollar movie franchise. Have you seen any of his other roles? I love Renner’s characters. They’re all ass kicking characters. And they’re all pretty much what he delivers, consistently, across the board.
(Do you remember when Megan Fox bitched about Michael Bay in an interview?)
So any way, now the newest word (or rumor) on the street is that it’s possible that Marvel is looking to recast Hawkeye for Avengers 2. And if recast, could become a recurring character on the new TV series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
This rumor news is from another website’s “sources.”
Some of these site sources do pan out pretty consistently, and sometimes, with other sites, not so much. So we’ll see how this all pans out. Though of late, as per some other resources, Marvel allegedly is a pretty tough business partner when it comes to actor contracts.
How many times have we ever heard about actors trash talking their income source and suddenly finding themselves redoing their “B” movie routine all over again.
I’d be bummed to see Renner on the outs, but if true, it would be cool to see Hawkeye in the TV series.
