Hugh Laurie Retiring After ‘House’

Brusimm Cinema Static TV NewsTHR is reporting that Hugh Laurie, star of Fox’s House, is not going to be looking for another TV role any time soon. In fact he thinks that he’s likely done with any future TV roles after his gig with House is up.

For his next project, he says he’s looking to go behind the cameras. His reasoning is that with as much fun as he’s had, he doesn’t think lightning will strike twice after this kind of role.

His additional reasoning is that he’s done around 170 shows, which equates to 56 movies… and that adds up to a kind of experience that gives you a different kind of confidence.

This season of House is Hugh Laurie’s eigth and though the first several seasons were incredibly entertaining, I think they’ve run out of fresh material to present in a script. It’s getting old.

It was fun while it lasted, but I think it is due time to hang up the sarcastic stethoscope for House.

As it is, Fox hasn’t said anything about a ninth season and the industry is not expecting another season.

I have to admit, I loved House, but I have lost interest because it’s like you say, there’s nothing really new anymore. In fact, I think it’s getting a bit boring. So maybe it is time to call it a day. I even think the 8th season was one too much.
Wishing Hugh all the best, he’s a great actor and I think he will be awesome in whatever he chooses to do from here on.
