Inception Spinning Top

The other day one of my readers asked if I had any spares of my “Inception” spinning top (Cobb’s totem) swag. I did not… I already gave out the few I had. But I told my reader I’d see what I can find and jeezus-jimminy-crack-corn people, I didn’t expect to find what I did.

First, my word of warning for those of you trying to track down the real deal from the studios: The tops that have the inscription INCEPTIONMOVE.COM on the underside, near the outer edge.

If there are other swag giveaways that don’t have that inscription, well, I wouldn’t trust it though I suppose they very well could have handed out more marketing swag with absolutely no kind of indentifying sales angle on it aside from the shape alone, but I wouldn’t bite. It’s one thing to pursue the American dream of making money from what ever opportunity presents itself, but if someone is creating fake trinkets for the pure angle to rip people off, that’s another thing all together.

Now, I hope you’re sitting down for this one, but just from Ebay alone, I’ve seen prices for the trinket of the “Inception” spinning top range from beginning bids of 99 cents to “But it NOw” prices of $70! Wow.

If you’re a shrewd Ebayer like I am, you would do some research. I found that the last 21 auctions that completed for Cobb’s Totem ranged in price from $15 to $47. The average sold price was just under $24.

Now me, if I were hunting for this beast, I would be patient, check the sellers feedback, only bet on those with 100% positive feedback and never bid over the average going price. But that’s me. As some have found out, I’m incredibly patient and insidious with my approach to obtaining that which I want.

Then again, my reader has a friend with a lathe and he’s getting his own “Inception” totem made for himself. Dang, I’m jealous.

Kwanla: If you have an Ebay account, head there. There are plenty for sale… but take a look at what I say in my article above here about the INCEPTION totem prices. I suggest setting a price ceiling and not spending much more than the average winning bid has been, at the time of this article. You might also check out CRAIGSLIST for the item. Good luck! Come back and let us know if you snag yourself one!
