Infestation movie on Syfy - a review

Infestation is a movie you’ll see on and off on the Syfy channel. It has a cast of familiar faces like Christopher Marquette (Joan of Arcadia), Brooke Nevin (Breakout Kings), Linda Park (Star Trek: Enterprise, Crash), Ray Wise (Chuck, Reaper & one of my favorite franchises, Jeepers Creepers 2) and a collection of various other bug victims/cast members.

Infestation was written/directed by Kyle Rankin and produced by Heavy Duty Entertainment. And Syfy likes to play it often, especially on their bug movie weekend marathons.

The movie starts out with us watching a slacker named Cooper (Marquette) just about to get fired by his boss for, well, being a slacker, when everyone is pounded by some piercing sound that knocks everyone out.

Cooper wakes up and finds himself cocooned up. He breaks himself out and frees a few others. From there, the story follows Cooper and a few others as they struggle to get out of the city and find a place to hide from the alien bug invasion.

The thing about the movie is that there’s a great flow of story from the get go and the direction and action in the film isn’t over the top like many of Syfy’s movies are. There are some good surprise/frights and the bug effects aren’t too bad at all.

This movie is not too hokey with dialog or effects and is one of the better movies played on the Syfy channel.

If you ever see Infestation coming up on the schedule of the cable network, and you’re looking for something to kill time with, I don’t think you’d be too disappointed.

No, you won’t be wowed beyond words. But I don’t think you’ll be holding your head in angst, looking for beer to help buffer the pain, like some of their “popcorn fun” B movies can do to you.
