Is Michael Bay Considering TRANSFORMERS 4 or Focusing on PAIN AND GAIN? [Cinema Static]

According to various press outlets, the news on the digital street is that Michael Bay is in negotiations to direct another Transformers franchise movie.

Transformers 4

And that’s movie news that Transformers fans are loving to hear.

We all know that Michael Bay was saying that Transformers: Dark of the Moon was his last foray into the digital world of Optimus Prime. And from all appearances, considering all the death and destruction he handed out in Dark of the Moon, he definitely came at it as if he was done with the franchise. And he hit us with some surprises with a few character “developments.”

I was convinced he was done. But millions and billions can sway one’s perspective. Even, I’m guessing, Michael Bay’s.

But what the media has indicated, is that their inside sources say that Bay is in negotiations.

But we also know that Bay was looking forward to something less technical than a CGI populated movie of huge alien robots.

Cue in his next project, titled Pain and Gain. Though even that movie has not sealed any deals with Bay yet.

Pain and Gain is a revenge plot, based on a 1999 New Times story about a man attacked and left for dead by a gang. But instead of dying, he hired a private eye to hunt down the gang and exact his own revenge.

Both movies have their rights held by Paramount, so Michael Bay is on familiar ground with regards to the contract negotiations.

If things work out, Michael Bay will begin filming Pain and Gain pretty quickly.

Then he’ll start up on the next Transformers movie after that, if timing and such work out. The rumors are that the next Transformers movie will delve into the canon of the franchise. That is, if they’re talking about the plans of Bay or the hopes or wishes of Paramount.

BUT…

To quote Michael Bay from his official forums,

“Studio’s are passing rumors but I’m not sure what I’m doing? I know I’m going to do Pain and Gain early spring but that’s it for right now. I’m leaving all my options on the table. I’ve got several Studio meetings in the next two weeks.”

That was posted December 7th, 2011 and it was titled “Right now I’m not decided on Transformers 4.

He did point out in other posts on the board that he’s prepping for a new movie. And he later pointed out he’ll be shooting Pain and Gain. I’m taking that he has definitely set up to move forward on this movie.

A Cinema Static Thought

I’d like to think Michael Bay is going to lean toward making another Transformers movie or two or three. They are nothing but huge, grand, popcorn fun for fans of the cartoon and toy franchise and new fans of the digital, 3D realm of movies.

Yes, I said 3D.

Generally speaking, live-action 3D movies are a waste of the tech and of movie-goers money. But it’s applicable to making animated and heavily CGI filled movies pretty dang entertaining.

In this case, I think Transformers is one of the better, if not perfect venues to come out in 3D. And Michael Bay definitely puts the effort into the process if you read through the forums called “Shoot For the Edit.”

Are you folks looking forward to Bay possibly taken up the mantle of guiding another Transformers movie?” I for one, can’t see anyone else helming the franchise into movie theaters. Who would dare?
