Aside from the occasional TV movie, this hasn't been redone since 1951. I cannot think of a better person to do it than Tim Burton. As far as 3D is concerned, you might be right if it is gimmicky. Still think you should check out "Avatar" in 3D. You saw it in 2D (luddite). Then tell us honestly if the extra cost of 3D is worth it. As for me, I'm going to see it in 3D.
