So what’s J. Michael Straczynski (JMS) been up to lately?  Here’s the latest I’ve heard:

He’s turned in scripts for Superman and Wonder Woman.  The art for the books is looking good he says.  He’s also turned in the latest screenplay draft of Lensman (Ron Howard production) a few weeks ago.  Lensman is a complicated science fiction book series, where the novel takes place 2 billion years before present day, as we know it.

He’ super busy with the Shattered Union project for Jerry Bruckheimer.  (Shattered Union is a turn-based tactics video game, that Cinematical reports,  Bruckheimer is turning into a movie.  It’s about the U.S., devastated by nuclear war, and the differing factions of the country waging a civil war with each other.  [Sniff, sniff?  Jericho???]  We wish.)

JMS is warming up to a few possible TV projects.

The Flickering Light project (A Grant Hill [Ninja Assassin, V for Vendetta, Matrix movies] production) is now waiting for actors to get involved.  The plot at IMDb readsPrisoners at a Gypsy concentration camp are pulled out for a task they could never have anticipated. Based on a true story.“  If all goes as hoped, film prep could begin in January and filming to begin in Berlin in or around March.  More than likely, he’ll be directing.

Other projects under his name on IMDb include They Marched Into Sunlight (About opposition to the Vietnam war on college campuses.), Silver Surfer & the one I’ve been waiting for, for what feels like an eternity, is the Forbidden Planet remake.

Comic-Con News

He originally wasn’t planning on going to San Diego Comic-Con but with so many of projects of his going on in the genre that the Con represents, he’s more than likely headed there with the intent of making some announcements.

He’ll also be showing up on May 22nd at the Orange County Screenwriters Group convocation in Santa Ana, CA.  Attendance is free. (<- You can check on the link in this paragraph I’ve set up for you!)

Cinema Static Asks:  Did You Know?

Did you know that JMS was nominated for an Eisner Award for his work on the Brave and the Bold #28 “Blackhawk and the Flash: Firing Line?”
