JOSS WHEDON in Final Talks for THE AVENGERS (Late Update: News Confirmed)

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Joss Whedon is in final negotiations to direct Marvel‘s The Avengers. (Late breaking news from IESB*, while I was typing no less, is that they are confirming that Joss Whedon is Directing The Avengers!)

The Avengers is going to be the end-all of all the recent superhero comic movies from Marvel, pulling in Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, probably The Hulk and a bunch of other characters.

It’s going to be a film very full of colorful excitement and more than likely very expensive to make and the person that the production company chooses, will be someone they have an ultimate level of faith in.

If these final talks for this directing gig for The Avengers pans out in a good direction for Joss Whedon, [Update:  It panned alright!!!] Marvel is saying something big.  Not to mention they will be more than likely catching the eye of every single Whedon-verse fan out there.

I’d have complete faith in Whedon’s approach to this movie and it makes all the precursor movies prior to it, seem even more exciting.

We’ll see how this pans out!  Regardless of the result of whether Joss Whedon closes the director deal, The Avengers is slated for a May 2012 release and I can’t wait to see what Joss does with this fantasy action comic book movie!

*Footnote:  For anyone interested, IESB was the first to scoop this angle back on April 1st, and today, the first to confirm the news.  I think April 1st was a crap day to get any kind of real breaking news, but just so ya know, IESB, not any other huge named website had the inside scoop.  And IESB doesn’t have a “velvet rope!”  (Those in the know, get that!)
