Timothy Olyphant in Justified on FX

This is a review of Justified on FX, starring Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, that premiered on March 16th.

In the first 15 minutes of Justified, we’re presented with just how hard core Givens and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) really are.  Givens puts an unnamed thug on notice, and follows through.  The thug pulled first, so Given’s shooting was “Justified.”

Walton Goggins plays Boyd Crowder, someone who likes blowing up places and is rather calculating.  He does NOT take any chances if he suspects his peers are cops.

Would you shoot me if you got the chance?

If you make me pull, I’ll put you down.

Olyphant and Goggins are perfect in the roles of nemesis for each other, though from what I’ve heard, Goggins will only be around a few episodes, so I’m guessing where that’s headed!

My Justified opinion of the FX premiere is that I like the serious, focused persona that Olyphant plays.  The premiere didn’t pander to trying to explain the entire character history of the main players.  We’ll learn it as we go.  I like that.  I hate when a network forces 110% of a character’s information in your face in the first episode.

Justified also stars  Natalie Zea, William Ragsdale, Nick Searcy et al.

I’d like to see the show last for the season and see where it goes.  It has great, fun potential and Olyphant plays the angry lawman with little patience very well.
