The other day I was catching grief from one of my gang about my seemingly “glowing” review of Lake Placid 3 that aired on the Syfy Channel last week. I did point out to my bud that if you look carefully, I may have said great things about Lake Placid 3, but I put my words in context with other Syfy Original Programming!

But even though I hesitantly noted that the movie seemed better than most, apparently many other folks thought the Colin Ferguson starrer was worth watching.

Lake Placid 3 pulled in 3 million viewers and became the most watched Saturday Original Movie since, well, Lake Placid 2 aired back in April of 2007. This number is based on Live+Same day metrics.

In fact the movie was the #1 ranked cable program on Saturday night prime time, which is between the hours of 8 and 11 p.m..

“Lake Placid 3 ranks just back of 2004ís Dragon Storm (3.03 million total viewers) as the fourth most watched Saturday Original Movie ever, narrowly behind 2005ís Pterodactyl (3.10 million total viewers) and Lake Placid 2 (3.12 million total viewers).”

Zing! I’m surprised and now I wonder if it was the movie or the cast that pulled in the numbers? It was probably a little bit of both.

Press Release

LAKE PLACID 3, STARRING COLIN FERGUSON (EUREKA), BECOMES MOST WATCHED SYFY TELECAST SINCE OCTOBER 2009

NEW YORK Ė August 24, 2010 Ė The crocs went wild on Saturday night when Lake Placid 3, which starred Colin Ferguson (Eureka), gobbled up three million total viewers (3.0) and 1.3 million Adults 25-54 — the most watched Syfy telecast since Ghost Hunters (October 2009) and the most watched Saturday Original Movie since Lake Placid 2 (April 2007), based on Live +Same Day data.

During its August 21 premiere from 9-11PM (ET/PT), Lake Placid 3 was the #1 ranked cable program in prime (8-11PM) among Adults 25-54. The movie also averaged a 2.2 household rating and 935,000 Adults 18-49.

Lake Placid 3 ranks just back of 2004ís Dragon Storm (3.03 million total viewers) as the fourth most watched Saturday Original Movie ever, narrowly behind 2005ís Pterodactyl (3.10 million total viewers) and Lake Placid 2 (3.12 million total viewers).

The October 28, 2009 episode of Ghost Hunters averaged 3.06 million total viewers.

In Lake Placid 3, Ferguson portrayed a game warden that moves his family to Lake Placid, once the site of deadly crocodile attacks. Locals assure him the crocs are gone, but his mischievous young son finds a few baby crocs and begins feeding them. They quickly grow into very big adults and start attacking the game wardenís family and nearby town. Lake Placid 3 also starred Yancy Butler (Kick-Ass) and Michael Ironside (Terminator Salvation). A UFO production for Sony.

And donít forget! Roger Cormanís Sharktopus, starring Eric Roberts, premieres Saturday, September 25, at 9PM (ET/PT).

(OK… can someone explain to me how Eric Roberts go from The Dark Knight to Sharktopus? Was someone holding his family hostage or what?† Lose a bet?)
