Life UneXpected from The CW is about a 15-year-old girl trying to get herself emancipated to get away from the foster care system but instead, finds herself put into the custody of her biological parents.

Lux (Brittany Robertson [Swingtown]) has been put through the ringer with bad experiences within the foster care system and needs to get away.  To become emancipated she has to get the signatures of her biological parents.

Her dad, Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha [Mad Men, Valentine, North Shore]) lives above the bar he owns.  He’s rather surprised to find out he has a daughter from a 1-night-stand because, well… you’ll find out why.

The mother, Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby [ER, Six Degrees, Roswell]) was the unprepared teenager who put her baby up for adoption… and never realized that the baby got bounced from family to family.  (You’ll see why when you watch the show.)

Through one turn or another Lux is put in the temporary custody of her biological parents (Don’t worry, you’ll see why).

Life UneXpected also stars Kerr Smith [Eli Stone, Justice, E-Ring, Charmed, Dawson's Creek], Brittney Irvin, Rhys Williams & others.

Life UneXpected is smartly written by Liz Tigelaar (Brothers & Sisters, What About Brian) and superbly directed by Gary Fleder (Life on Mars, October Road)

This show hits emotional, feel-good nerves with the occasional and self-admitted (by Cate) snarky-sarcastic edge at times.  That edge involves refreshing reflections on society and the occasional surprise decisions we need to make in life.  I don’t think it’s overdone, but then again, I’m a snarky kind of guy.  The plot pulls you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the end.

This is such a great premiere episode, it could have been made into a successful 2-hour movie.  They pack a lot into this premiere.

I can only surmise that after this, we will see character developments that involve some complicated social interactions between the characters.
