'Longmire' one sheet - tv review

I’m now 6 episodes into A&E’s Longmire and I’m finding this show is a great modern-day western of sorts with a smart but mellow tone to the tale.

'Longmire' - Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire

Longmire is about sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), who oversees Absaroka County, Wyoming and all the crimes that could possibly take place in Wyoming.  And surprisingly, it’s not much different than the big city, well, except for bear maulings and Indian reservation crimes.

Katee Sackhoff in 'Longmire'

Lou Diamond Phillips in 'Longmire'Longmire is joined by Deputy Victoria Moretti (Katee Sackhoff), & Deputy Branch Connally (Bailey Chase).  Longmire’s daughter, Cady is played by Cassidy Freeman.

Walt Longmire is the sheriff of a small town, big country territory and also has the political complication of some of his cases crossing into the regional Indian reservation.  Walt has, from time to time, need to depend on his friend, Henry Standing Bear, played by Lou Diamond Phillips.

This show takes a known commodity of police procedural and inserts it into the big country of Wyoming.  Walt doesn’t just have to deal with the crimes that pop up, but also has to deal with his deputy, Branch, who is running for his Sheriff’s office position.

Branch believes he needs to drag modern day tech into the Sheriff’s office while Walt likes it old-school… even to the point of never carrying a cell phone.  (I don’t even think he has one.)

On top of the old-fashion elbow grease, his relationship with the neighboring Indian reservation police force is fragile, at best.  And yet, he often has to cross paths with the hostility of the Indian law, Officer Mathias, played by Zahn McClamon.

Oh, and if things aren’t complicated enough, Branch is dating Walt’s daughter, but they are hiding it from Walt.  So his deputy is running against him in the election and secretly dating his daughter.  I can’t wait to see how that plays out!

'Longmire' - Robert Taylor

This show has a wonderful vibe to it while Walt exudes this tough yet fatherly vibe.  He’s very easy to like, as he’s tough when he needs to be but when he needs to be sensitive or polite, he knows that too.  But when Walt plays it nice or pleasant to deliver serious news, there’s this smile that comes out that looks like it hurts him to make it happen.  But it’s genuine.

And the vistas we get an eyeful of are absolutely gorgeous and tempts me to pack it up and move there.  (That being Las Vegas, New Mexico, where they film the show.)

If you haven’t caught Longmire on A&E, I’d suggest checking it out.  It’s like Justified but way more rural and a little bit more mellow…  mostly.

And if you have been watching it, know that A&E renewed Longmire for a second season already.  Woot!

I’m going to guess and say that since the first season premiered in Jun (I think it was) that you can probably start looking for it around then. And no, I hope I wrong because I don’t want to wait that long for it to come back either!

Both my husband and I love the show and can’t wait for it to return. Please let us know when – we don’t want to miss a minute of it.
