“A male stripper teaches a younger performer how to party, pick up women, and make easy money.”
But here’s a better movie description for Magic Mike:
Veteran stripper Magic Mike (Tatum) teaches a novice (Pettyfer) about stripping while at the same time, seeking a new lifestyle outside of stripping. He seeks the help of his protégé’s sister (Horn).
Magic Mike is from director Steven Soderbergh, whose “artsy” action movie Haywire , just left me a bit numb, but not from lack of story, but more from the substance of an artistically mindful eye.
So I’m not sure what to expect actually. But I believe with Soderbergh behind the wheel, it could be much more than it appears, as far as a story goes.
Add to that, that up until now, I’ve only seen short preview clips for the movie that seem to point directly at an all-skin movie, and I wasn’t holding my breath… but then I came across the preview clip below and suddenly I’m thinking, huh, there’s a story to this?
And actually, there is an interesting story to it, considering it’s based on Channing Tatum’s experience from his younger days as a stripper, so it would seem they already have an expert adviser on-board!
Tatum spent time in Tampa, Florida, when he was 19, actually being a stripper.
Story or not, there does seem to be plenty of eye candy to go around for any demographic of fan… as the cast includes
- Channing Tatum,
- Alex Pettyfer (I am Number Four),
- Joe Manganiello (True Blood’s werewolf)
- Matt Bomer (In Time, White Collar)
- Matthew McConaughey
- Cody Horn (Rescue Me)
- Olivia Munn (Iron Man 2)
- Mircea Monroe
- Riley Keough (The Runaways)
- Denise Vasi (Single Ladies)
- Kevin Nash
- Adam Rodriguez (CSI: Miami)
- Wendi McLendon-Covey (Rules of Engagement)
- Betsy Brandt
and more. Plus, from the preview clip and photo album I just put together, McConaughey gives hope to all 40+ year-olds that you CAN keep a body in tip-top shape. There’s no excuses!
And after watching Tatum in so many action movies, I just didn’t know he had the (dance) moves in him! Check it out:
Feel free to check out my ‘Magic Mike photo album‘ (It’s a Facebook album, but it’s open to the public. No sign up necessary.) I’m probably not going out to see this, but if I get enough fan vote/persuasion, well, this site is about and for the fans.
