A few weeks back some folk were spreading their insights about Mark Wahlberg landing the lead human gig on Michael Bay’s next Transformers movie, Transformers 4.
The net got wild about it but Bay had to come out and sooth the nerves of many, saying that he’s working with Wahlberg, but on something else.
But apparently, the internet has powers we don’t know about… or at least it looked like it sparked something in Bay’s head. (Then again, the internet thought this was a real early promo art for TF4, but turned out to be fan-made):
But that aside, the internet still may have done some good because a few days ago (Oct 31), Bay posted to his own site reflecting on what I just noted, adding that he’s working with Wahlberg on a movie called Pain and Gain.
But then Bay said that he started getting ideas while he and his creative team were in the beginning stages of developing Transformers 4.
So he put this out there for an update:
“We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter.”
Most think this suggests that Wahlberg could land a gig in the next Transformers movie. Or is Bay maybe considering something behind the camera for Wahlberg? Probably not, but it’s fun to ponder.
First… having Wahlberg as a cast member of the movie would be awesome. It would lend a certain amount of credibility to the movie for me. Plus, adding an action star who actually looks like he could deliver action wouldn’t hurt.
But with that said, I don’t want to ignore Wahlberg’s resume from behind the camera either, and I wonder if Bay might be thinking up something that could use Mark from the creative side.
Wahlberg has 13 projects in development as the producer, he’s got two movies in production as a producer (Broken City, Three Mississippi) and has produced movie projects such as Contraband, The Fighter, & We Own The Night.
But let’s not also forget what TV series he’s put his production brand on: In Treatment, Entourage, How to Make it in America and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
So Wahlberg has the gams for production… but I’m guessing Bay may already have a team in place. Who knows. But I know it would be pretty interesting to take this rehashed rumor and run with it and see him in the next Transformers movie. TF4 is due out in June of 2014.
What do you think?
