Menlo Park CAIt’s being said that the Menlo Park City Council will be pondering the idea reducing the amount of time downtown visitors are allowed to park in the parking along Santa Cruz Ave. They’re also looking at the idea of reducing the number of parking permits for downtown employees.

Santa Cruz, as it stands, has a 2-hour parking limit. After that, you’re fair game to the swift penmanship justice of the parking ticket police! The City Council is pondering reducing the limit down to 1-hour time limits for street parking and they’re looking to add some 15-minute stalls along the street.

They’re also looking at ways to charge parking citizens if they stay in the parking plaza for more than 2 hours at a time.

They’re also looking at reducing the number parking permits for the Parking Plaza from 47 to 24 for downtown employees.

UG.

I can’t seem to find a reason to argue against the Santa Cruz parking limit change… though if you park there to eat at a restaurant, you will probably incur indigestion because you’ll have to eat faster to get back to your car. I would love to see them add more trees to the parking plaza then, if they’re going to eliminate the ability to park on the street under those shade trees.  (Sometimes, there are things in the car that just should not be left to roast!)

Charging for more than 2 hours in the plaza sounds like you’ll have to limit downtown store browsing and again, the feeling of being rushed while you browse does not create a relaxed shopping environment.

If they change the number of parking spaces given to employees, I’m guessing we could expect more employee cars cluttering up our streets in front of our homes. It’s not a terrible thing… it’s just a thing.

City Council will be meeting Tuesday, Aug 31st, 2010.
