Despite Smallville fans continued hope to see Michael Rosenbaum reprise his Lex Luthor role, we all know he’s been rather adamant in declining a return. As a matter of fact, Mr. Rosenbaum is a busy guy. Or professionally, it is possible that he’s trying to avoid being pigeon-holed into this kind of genre role the Lex Luthor represents.

One small roadblock to his return is his landing a gig in a premiere episode of Breaking In on Fox. There seemed to be a great response to his portrayal in the premiere episode of the show. So much so that his character’s one-up appearance will be making at least six more appearances in the show beyond the pilot.

This isn’t a show-stopper for Mr. Rosenbuam reprising Lex on Smallville, but if he hasn’t said yes yet, I’m not sure why he would change his mind now.

Word on the street indicates that The CW is still badgering… or pursuing Michael Rosenbaum into reprising the role of Lex Luthor on Smallville. We’ll see how that goes. Part of me understands this professional distancing and another part of me is wondering about if there’s any commitment to the small cadre of fans who have become enamored with his character portrayal of the villain.

We’ll see how it goes. I’m guessing for Mr. Rosenbaum to make an appearance, someone is going to have to cough up an eye-catching amount of cash to get him back. But that’s just my guess. Aside from his not reprising Lex Luthor, there are still a few things of note that could also create a logistical issue with the CW series:

First, we have to remind you that In March of 2010, when Michael Rosenbaum said he was done with Smallville.

Later in the same month, we discovered that he was pitching a 1/2 hour comedy to Syfy called Saved By Zeroes., He reportedly pitched it to Syfy called Saved by Zeroes.

Over the last few years he’s also voiced characters on the Justice League & Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated TV series.

He’s also had projects land on the big screen in Father of Invention & Brother’s Justice. He has a new movie in post-production right now called Catch .44.

Like I said, Michael Rosenbaum is busy and it may very well be that he’s moving forward. Or he is looking to his professional image. Either way I don’t think we should be holding our breaths for his return to Smallville. Though, I hope I’m wrong.
